Smart eyewear glasses for cyclists by Vélobsessive

Second Generation of Smart Eyewear for Athletes

The second generation of sports smart glasses is lighter, brighter, and longer-lasting — Vélobsessive now stocks the ENGO 1 and ENGO 2, which connect directly to your existing GPS devices and sports watches.

Updated: Feb 21, 2024

At Vélobsessive we have been using smart eyewear for several years and are convinced this technology provides a genuine benefit for athletes. The second generation is now available — lighter, more comfortable, with longer battery life, brighter displays, and a lower price. After testing this new generation, we are happy to announce that ENGO smart glasses can now be purchased from Vélobsessive.

Why Use Sports Smart Eyewear?

Most athletes already use GPS cycling computers or sports watches. The key benefit of smart glasses is that performance data is always visible within your field of vision — like a head-up display in a car. This removes the need to look down at a computer, improving road safety and keeping your head in the optimal position.

For triathletes and time trialists, this matters aerodynamically too: every movement of the head away from the aero position creates additional drag. And since most athletes wear sunglasses anyway, smart glasses add no meaningful weight — the second generation weighs just 36 g, comparable to standard sunglasses.

Connectivity With Existing Devices

Unlike first-generation smart glasses, which had all intelligence built in — making them heavier and limiting battery life — the new generation acts primarily as an additional display connected to devices you already own. The ENGO 1 and ENGO 2 connect with smartphones (Android and iPhone), a wide range of Garmin GPS cycling computers (including Edge 1030 and 1040), Garmin and Suunto sports watches, and Apple Watch. Heart rate monitors and power meters can be paired via the connected device or the smartphone app.

ENGO 1 and ENGO 2

ENGO is a French manufacturer of smart eyewear for endurance athletes, offering two second-generation models.

ENGO 1

ENGO 1 smart glasses for cyclists and triathletes

The ENGO 1 is the flagship model, featuring a photochromic lens that automatically adapts to changing light conditions. Designed for cyclists, triathletes, runners, and other endurance athletes, it features a miniaturized AMOLED display — the brightest heads-up display available for sports use.

ENGO 2

ENGO 2 smart glasses

The ENGO 2 shares the same core features as the ENGO 1 but uses a fixed polycarbonate lens and a magnetic charging port instead of USB. Available in two shield sizes: Standard and Large.

Key Specifications — Both Models

Both the ENGO 1 and ENGO 2 support up to 6 configurable data fields per screen, including speed, heart rate, cadence, power, elapsed time, distance, altitude, and more. Screens can be switched with gesture control while riding. Battery life is 10–12 hours, and both devices are water and sweat resistant.

Tired of Bikes that don't fit

Thomas Glättli is the driving force behind Vélobsessive. As an enthusiastic cyclist and dedicated amateur athlete, he was tired of compromising when it came to finding the perfect road bike. In 2019, he founded Vélobsessive with a clear goal: the rider shouldn't have to fit the bike; the bike should fit the rider.
